Located in King County’s Eastside region, Bellevue is a stunning Washington town nestled across the lake from Seattle. It is famous for its modern amenities, retail and shopping centers, vibrant economy, and for being a tech hub. Bellevue is, in fact, considered one of the best places to live in the state and one of the country’s top mid-sized cities. If you are considering buying a home in Bellevue, here are six facts you should know about the area and its people.

    Bellevue Is Accessible and Connected

While living in Bellevue, you can enjoy a small-town feel while being located close to major metropolitan areas. The city is located a mere 15 miles from Seattle by car, 16 from Redmond, 41 from Tacoma, and an hour from Olympia. Bellevue sits across the lake from Seattle and is accessible through the light rail and two bridges. Commutes both within and outside town are easy and convenient.

The Housing Market Is Competitive and Expensive

Bellevue’s convenient location, safety index, and modern amenities make it a residential magnet. As such, homes for sale in Bellevue sell for an average 156 percent more than the national average. The median price per square foot is $588, and the average home price is over $1 million. The market is also competitive, and homes spend an average of 2 days on the market, with many receiving multiple offers.

    The Community Is Safe

Bellevue is a relatively safe community, especially compared to Seattle. Living here, you have a 1 in 34 chance of falling victim to property crime and a 1 in 863 chance of becoming a victim of violent crime. 99 percent of residents report feeling safe to walk around during the day and 88 at night.

The Cost of Living Is High, But Job Opportunities Abound

Like housing, the cost of living in Bellevue is relatively high. The city is considered one of the most expensive in Washington, and the overall cost of living is 68 percent higher than the national average. The bulk of these costs can be attributed to housing, food, and transportation. On the bright side, Bellevue is one of the wealthiest metro areas on the West Coast, and the average salary is $73,719. There are also plenty of job opportunities, with major Fortune 500 companies located in the area.

Bellevue Has a Strong Education System

Bellevue is a great place to raise a family because of its safety, ease of commute, and schools. The Bellevue School District is among the highest-ranked in the state and comprises 31 schools with over 21,600 students. Bellevue College is also nearby for higher learning opportunities.

There Are Many Opportunities for Recreation

Bellevue is located near the North Cascades National Parks, Olympic, and Mt. Rainer. This means there are endless opportunities for outdoor recreation, and residents can enjoy over 800 miles of walking trails, 2,700 acres of green spaces, and more than 100 public parks, among other attractions.
